More money for electronic health records: Modernizing Medicine gets $14M in Series C round
Electronic health records startup Modernizing Medicine has raised another $14 million to bring its software to new specialties.
I think it is great that all of these startups and early med-tech companies are getting funding. I really do. One of the things I’ve noticed after reviewing a lot of the solutions out there is that most of these companies are bringing this strange kind of bias to how they do their collection and presentation.
It reminds me of a conversation I had with Jake last week about websites. Because of the nature of the web, and the curious nature of web designers we have websites that completely redefine what a user interface means. In a lot of those cases you see that information architecture and basic typography get thrown out the window in favor of something that looks cool.
What we’re left with is millions of websites that don’t adhere to a usability standard. Believe it or not there is a single definitive way to present any kind of information.
It leaves me wondering, in the overlap, how this industry now flooded with venture capital and private investment dollars is going to manage the bias toward over-managed schema and flashy profit driven “value points.”
Our job as engineers and information managers is to keep chiseling away at the superficial presentation layer to find out what that definitive (thing) is.
