Are sequels killing creativity in independent games?
Honestly, I don’t think sequels themselves are inherently bad, either. I can think of many sequels that were as good or better than the original. Admittedly, deliberately designing a game with a sequel hook is generally bad form in my eyes unless you know 100% that it’s going to get made, but this is very rare in my experience. Anyways, as you say CZ Indie sequels are pretty rare at any rate.
I think the only problem with the article is that it’s a little too early to be writing it. I think that we get carried away with concept design sometimes but you could definitely make a case for a game with a sequel if the game itself is narrative driven. A lot (I know, generalizing again) of indie games don’t fall into that bag.
