Sometimes you’re working really hard and you think:

manic self: “I’m making really good progress here and I feel comfortable with the level of success I’m achieving in my current endeavor.”

And then you see something from someone you really respect that makes you have to double-down on the dopamine-like response that writing software can give you sometimes because you know that the monster is going to show its face again sometime (probably soon) and you want at least some semblance of armor for the encounter.
