In addition to the side-scrolling gameplay in AteBit you also interact with the master program screen. This over world map allows you to visit levels you’ve already completed in addition to selecting your next challenge.
While this would be fun-enough, we’re taking things a step further, adding a second layer of gameplay to what would otherwise be an interesting spin on the traditional platformer.
As you collect bits in levels they are added to your total memory pool. Once you have enough bits inside the over world map you can apply these bits to construct programs. Programs have the ability to change your in-game appearance, affect enemy behavior and even alter the structure of the levels you’ve already played. These aren’t just “power ups” – they allow you to shape the game to your own personal play style.
